At Brighton Primary School, our priority is maintaining growth across the students’ seven years of primary school. We have adopted the developmental continuum of the Australian Curriculum that assesses what our students can do and identifies where to go next with their learning. This approach to learning broadens the teacher’s view students’ progress. Assessment is not confined to meeting the indicative targets of each year level. The focus is on growth and moving forward along the developmental continuum.
Brighton Primary School’s guiding statements: the School Strategic Plan, Vision and Mission, curriculum model and pedagogical framework, focus strongly on the development of the whole child; intellectually, socially and emotionally.
We offer a rich program taught by specialist teachers, which includes:
Brighton Primary School is well represented in the interschool sports program and district sporting events. There are significant milestones as for our students as they progress through the school: a perceptual motor program in Foundation, Reading Recovery in Grade one, a biennial musical production in Grades four and five, yoga in Grades two, five and six . We have a student leadership program at year six – which is supported by Junior School Council.
Brighton Primary School hosts a regional Hearing Unit. Currently we have twenty students who have a clinically diagnosed hearing loss. The Unit has one teacher of the deaf for every four students. The teachers of the deaf have offices and workspace in the main building. Both the teachers of the deaf and the students from the Unit work in mainstream classrooms and in adjacent withdrawal spaces for one-on-one sessions and small group work.
A culture of shared responsibility for the social and emotional wellbeing and protection of students is promoted by the school leadership and teachers.
The Student Engagement Policy clearly facilitates a culture of shared responsibility for the social and emotional wellbeing of students. We use Restorative Practices to address inappropriate behaviour and facilitate dialogue and discussion about righting the wrong. This is supported by explicit teaching of the positive behaviours that are embodied in the IB learner profile and underpinned by the attitudes of the Primary Years Program.
At Brighton Primary School we have a Student Wellbeing Team. The team is formed each year through an expression of interest. One teacher is timetabled to be released each afternoon to work with students to:

Welcome to Brighton Primary School one of the popular educators in your Brighton area. Our aim is help you in your learning journey.
We endeavour to celebrate each other's uniqueness by providing opportunity for all and to develop a culture that identifies that the journey towards excellence is often paved with trial and error, risk taking, learning from mistakes, flexibility and adaptability. We believe that encouraging students to take ownership of the learning is critical in achieving the best learning outcomes and that implicit in this concept is that students learn their own areas of strength and areas of development, through useful and explicit feedback.
